About the Restaurant
Steenbock’s on Orchard, which is housed within the cutting-edge science mecca the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery, highlights local and seasonal ingredients at their best. They source local meats, cheeses and vegetables, make their own jams and cure their own meats in their preservation kitchen. Chef Michael Pruett's menu is constantly evolving to give diners an opportunity to sample the finest local foods at the height of their flavor. Steenbock’s is a part of the Madison Food Fight Restaurant Group.
In 1923, UW–Madison biochemistry professor Harry Steenbock developed a method to increase the vitamin D content in foods like milk, a discovery that would eventually eliminate the childhood disease known as rickets. Instead of quickly selling his rights to a commercial foods company, Steenbock enlisted the help of several colleagues and formed one of the nation’s first university technology transfer offices—the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation. Steenbock’s on Orchard honors his legacy with a full-service menu of innovative entrees and an ambience that invites colleagues to linger for conversation.
About the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery
The Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery building, which was completed in December 2010, houses the public Wisconsin Institute for Discovery and the private Morgridge Institute for Research in a single, four-story facility on the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus.
The building serves as a hub for interdisciplinary research – spanning biotechnology, nanotechnology and information technologies – that will lead to the development of new biomedical treatments and technological applications aimed at improving human health and welfare. As a gateway to campus for the public, the building also is home to teaching labs, designed as "dream" collaborative learning environments. The labs host a wide range of education programs for K-12 and college students, science teachers and the public.
The main floor of the facility was built as a Town Center to welcome all with food, interactive displays, ongoing activities, hands-on learning labs, events and meeting spaces. It includes public gathering spaces, shops and restaurants designed to revitalize the streets around the facility and enrich the campus environment.
Individuals with Pre-Paid Luncheons must register before the deadline to ensure their place at the event.
Reservation deadline is Friday, December 28 at 10:00 a.m. Cancellations must be received no later than Friday, December 30 at 10:00 a.m.
