Outreach
Members of TBF feel it is important to support our community and to give back. TBF makes an annual selection of community organizations to support or interact with for the forthcoming year consistent with the purpose of TBF.
Our outreach into the community also allows us to foster relationships among members and between TBF members and the community.
Decision Criteria Matrix -- The following questions are designed to help TBF members evaluate proposals brought before them:
- Does this proposal fit with the vision of the organization?
- Does this proposal help TBF deliver on the promise that the positioning makes to its members:
- Does this proposal meet the needs and wants of the target members:
- Is this proposal consistent with TBF’s core values? (unity, giving, excellence, professionalism, lifelong learning)
Our Vision -- Women who realize the potential of women in business and in their communities.
Mission -- TBF is a professional women’s organization that fosters the personal and professional growth of its members and other women through networking, scholarships, mentoring, and community involvement.
Positioning -- Making connections, making a difference
TBF is a professional organization of women who want to expand their network of meaningful business connections and to make a difference in other women’s lives. Our programs and activities are created solely for the purpose of uniting professional women, building relationships, recognizing achievement and helping women realize their potential. We are your source for quality connections that can make a difference in your business, in your life and in the lives of those you touch.
Odyssey Project
In 2010 TBF supported the students in the Odyssey Project by donating approximately 10 meals 1st semester and 14 meals for 2nd semester for 40 adults each Wednesday evening. This was completed through members cooking or reaching out to local organizations and restaurants for meal donations. TBF is looking forward to continuing our support in 2011. The dates for 2011-2012 are Sept 28, Oct 26, Nov 16, Dec 7, Jan 25, Feb 22, Mar 28, Apr 25.
What Is the Odyssey Project?
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Odyssey Project provides members of our community facing economic barriers with a chance to start college. In this introductory humanities course, students gain a voice and a sense of empowerment through lively discussions of literature, history, philosophy, art and writing.
Each Wednesday evening from September-to-May, UW-Madison faculty and staff introduce students to great works and help them improve skills in writing and critical thinking. The project director is Emily Auerbach, professor of English and recipient of numerous teaching, arts, and broadcasting awards. Many guest faculty and artists participate in the class and students take part in field trips to fine arts performances. (I changed a word and deleted a comma)
The program provides students with a variety of support services. Participants receive individual help in writing, counseling on the process of applying to college, and guidance on financial aid. Students who successfully complete the September-to-May program receive six college credits through the English department.
Domestic Abuse and Intervention Service (DAIS):
In 2011 TBFwill look to support DAIS by collecting items from TBF members during luncheon meetings in our “Big Pink Bin”. The list of items can be found by clicking on this link http://www.abuseintervention.org/documents/Shelter-Wish-List.pdf
What is the Domestic Abuse and Intervention Service?
DAIS believes that a world free from violence is possible. They work to make Dane County, WI, a safer, more just, more equitable place for people who have experienced domestic violence, their children, and the people who love them.
Their mission is to empower those affected by domestic violence and advocate for social change through support, education and outreach. Their vision is a nonviolent community that actively promotes safety, peace, justice and hope.
To make this happen, DAIS offers a wide array of crisis intervention and community education/prevention programs, including a 24-hour Help Line, programming for children from violent homes, legal advocacy, support groups, emergency safety planning, and the only domestic violence shelter for all of Dane County.
YWCA
In 2010 and 2011TBF partnered with YWCA to collectwomen’s professional clothing for donation from TBF members during luncheon meetings and put into our “Big Pink Bin”. http://www.ywcamadison.org/site/pp.asp?c=lkJZJdO4F&b=91743
What Is the YWCA?
The YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
Eliminating racism and empowering women are hallmark programs of the YWCA. The YWCA represents two million women, girls and their families in the United States and 25 million women worldwide. The YWCA has almost 300 associations across the United States and can also be found in more than 100 countries.
Locally, the YWCA provides emergency shelter to homeless families with children and homeless teenage girls. The YWCA houses up to 40 people in private shelter rooms with shared kitchens. A YWCA case manager works with each family to help them find housing and to prevent future homelessness.
Third Street is a neighborhood located on the third and fourth floors at the downtown YWCA. The program serves single moms with one child, birth to four years old by providing safe affordable apartments with support services. Third Street strives to end the cycles of homelessness and abuse by providing a place for young families to thrive and work toward becoming economically self-sufficient.
Suited for Success provides professional-styled clothing, shoes, and accessories to women who need appropriate wardrobes in order to return to work or for job interviews.
