Judy Rose was one of the core group of exceptional, visionary women who founded TBF in 1986. She exemplified the spirit of TBF and advocated for women's issues. As one of the more accomplished members, she gave generously of her time, talent and wisdom. She was tireless in promoting what was important to her and full of good humor and patience even in the face of challenges. Her professional, community and personal life mirrored the commitment to excellence and personal growth espoused by TBF members.
Judy served as TBF's 1996-97 president and was a champion of scholarships for returning adult students. She directed her skills and enthusiasm not only to the selection process, but to finding donors for the cause. Her death on May 4, 1999 cut short her personal involvement in awarding TBF scholarships.
In December 1999, Judy's husband Jim Stern and sons Steven and Michael Rose paid tribute to her by creating the Judy Rose Scholarship fund at the Madison Community Foundation. Memorials given to the TBF Endowment Fund in Judy's name were combined with her family's gift, allowing TBF to honor Judy's memory in perpetuity with a scholarship of at least $2,000 each year for a returning adult student.
Stern also provided a $2,000 gift so that the first Judy Rose Scholarship could be awarded in May 2000.
